Pineapple Salsa
Pineapple salsa is a delicious and refreshing condiment that goes well with many dishes. It is also easy to make with fresh ingredients. Here are some tips and a recipe for original pineapple salsa:
- Choose a ripe and juicy pineapple. You can tell if a pineapple is ripe by smelling it at the base, squeezing it gently, and looking for green leaves. A ripe pineapple will have a sweet aroma, yield slightly to pressure, and have vibrant green leaves1.
- Dice the pineapple and other ingredients finely. This will help the flavors blend together and make the salsa easier to scoop with chips or spoon over your food. You can use a sharp knife or a food processor to chop the ingredients.
- Now for some heat and acidity: A good pineapple salsa should have a balance of sweet, spicy, sour, and savory flavors. The heat comes with jalapeño peppers, serrano peppers, or red pepper flakes. Then add some acidity with either lime juice, lemon juice, or vinegar. You can also add some salt, sugar, garlic, onion, cilantro, or mint to enhance the flavor.
